lotm.jpgQuick review of a classic movie. I was forced into watching this film and afterwards cannot believe I waited so long to watch it. It is is uncommon to see a movie of such high quality at every level. The last of the Mohicans is rock solid from the script, cast, music score, and filming. It is easy to see how it could be a favorite. The action scenes are some of the best I have seen. There is a lot of killing and the scenery is just amazing. The movie looks so real and if you haven’t seen it…why not give it a shot. I would not change anything about this movie. I score it an A-.

vegas.jpgAre you looking for a funny, low expectations, predictable, mainstream comedy?? Then ‘What happens in Vegas’ is perfect. It turned out to be one the funniest movies to be released this year. The WHIV was easy to watch, the humor was quick, sarcastic comments were unexpected and the casting was good. The supporting cast is hilarious in parts. The only casting mistakes were Queen Latifah and Dennis Miller….why waste your money on b stars for such insignificant roles. The movie doesn’t need a breakdown of events, if you are looking for a fast paced, upbeat, funny movie…give it a shot. I would watch it again. It will not win any Oscars but it WILL make you laugh and it scores a b+ with me.

ij4.jpgAh, the long-awaited fourth Indiana Jones movie has arrived and is currently disappointing audiences everywhere. Two facts: 1) The Indiana Jones series is on my family’s Top 10 Movies List, so my expectations were high. 2) Sequels are overwhelmingly disappointing, and especially when the latest installment premieres 19 years after the ‘last’ one. That, by the way, makes me question why “The Last Crusade” wasn’t left alone. Don’t they know what LAST means? Anyway, Harrison Ford looked great. I knew he would. I’ve had sex dreams about him, for Pete’s sake. HE’S not going to disappoint. All the actors looked great. The appearance of Marion made both audiences (yes, I went twice) around me sigh, “Oh…” so bringing her back was a wise choice. Shia LeBeouf was believable as Indy’s (surprise!) son. Cate Blanchett’s character was more of a caricature of a character, but looking back at the other Indiana Jones movies, I think there are those kinds of ‘comic strip villains’ in each one. I’ve heard a lot of people review this movie and I’ve learned that the alien direction was not appreciated. I wasn’t bothered by this at all. Every movie has had supernatural happenings; aliens was just a matter of time. What DID bother me was the campy coincidences and unbelievable scenes that often time seemed to go on way too long (much like this review). The monkeys becoming Shia’s pal and helping him defeat the evil Russians was the last straw. That scene was reminiscient of Pirates of the Caribbean, which is all a little too ‘Disney’ for me. Overall, some scenes could be cut as well as some cheesiness. I give this movie a B.

indy.jpgMy first movie premiere night! I have ALWAYS been a HUGE fan of Indiana Jones and own the triology. This movie is not in the class as the originals. The movie is about a “B”. Harrison Ford was able to pull off Indiana Jones again. I was happy to see he looked the proper age. Shia is a welcome addition to the series, he would be a great choice for #5 with him taking over the lead role and Harrison doing the Sean Connery.
I liked the move from Nazi to Russians and for the time period seems believable. But what keeps this movie from being a classic is the Aliens, just doesn’t fit with the other movies…aliens…the 4th film is about aliens. Several cgi scenes are unbelievable bad should have been removed from the plot…the chase thru the jungle, rocket sled, nuclear blast and motorcycle chase. No need to go into detail, those cgi scenes added no value. Indy and Marion relationship was clearly under-developed. There could have been a better connection with ‘Mutt’ jones his son.
It appeared Indy had to many people as side kicks…the girl, the kid, the friend, the traitor. I liked the movie but thought it should have been smarter, should have stayed true to the originals with religious artifacts plots not aliens. If you remove the previous 3, this movie struggles. If you didn’t have Harrison Ford…well thats another story. I probably won’t watch the movie again but it is great to see Harrison as Indy again …so watch it just for that but don’t expect a classic film.

MV5BNDgyNzA0MjgyM15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNDEwNTYzMQ@@._V1._CR33,0,383,383_SS100_.jpgYes, I prejudged this movie. No, I didn’t like the premise beforehand. Yes, I thought it sounded like a Hallmark or Lifetime movie. (Actually, I’d be shocked if it doesn’t appear on Lifetime in the future.) But, here comes the shocker… I kind of liked it anyway. What can I say? It was a feel-good movie, and those are hard to dislike. The weaknesses would be the predictability (go figure, the bratty rich kid changes for the better!) and the little-girl-with-terminal-illness schtick (yes, I cried a little, shut up). The strengths would be the performances of the actors. James Garner has always been a stud (I had a minor crush on him after Murphy’s Romance) and Abigail Breslin is a talented little girl. Even the lead actor (whatever his name is) did a great job of transforming throughout. It was worth my time. I give it a solid B.

images.jpeI enjoyed this movie. I would and have watched it again. The movie is about the responsibility of man to be great by going thru the lessons of life. Jason has lived a privileged life and these lessons were bypassed. He is given several tasks to understand great character. Most people learn strong character from their teachers, friends and family. Will the movie change you, will it stop you from drifting thru life probable not but it could. Its a time for you to Dream…could you be better, could you help someone, could you be part of someones perfect day. The movie has a great cast and has a feel good quality. “Change the world.” I give it a strong b+.

streetkings.jpgKeeanu Reeve’s worst movie…miscast, very hard to believe anything he says or does. Its not Training Day..thou written and directed by the same guy. I have not one good thing to say about the movie. I wish I could get that time back. Thou some have given it good reviews…don’t watch it. Grade=F

ironman.jpgPeople skipping work, some going twice, going opening night. My overall view was its not a bad film but is was just another average flim. It missed ACTION!!!! Where is the action…its a hyped up, 2hr blockbuster with 5-10 min of total action. The whole movie felt improbable, slowed down, predictable and lacked action. My opinion the writers failed to create a connection to the viewer like the other comic book movies..ie Spiderman, XMEN, Batman etc.. Iron Man had potential to be a lot more.  The casting was good, Downey jr was a good fit and had several funny parts. Paltrow, wow! she looked great, attractive and very likeable. Jeff Bridges as the villain worked but he was limited. My grade is B, its watchable but its not something I would watch again.

ironman1.jpgI am not a superhero fan. In fact, I usually shy away from the Marvel Comics franchise like Superman ’shies away’ from cryptonite. The casting of Robert Downey, Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow, however, piqued my interest enough to check out the new blockbuster. What a spectacular gamble! I’ve always enjoyed the scenes that showcase the hero’s evolution. The mortals are submersed in a situation in which their moral fiber is tested and the result is always the same - a superhero is born. The first third of Iron Man is just that, and I was enthralled from that point on. I have trashed Downey, Jr. in the past, but I can’t imagine anyone else delivering Tony Stark’s smart-ass lines like he did. Somehow, I was even attracted to him. Hm. Paltrow did a great job, even though I wasn’t happy with her choice in taking this role. I imagine her as Lady Wessex in Shakespeare in Love forever! Another one of my favorites, Jeff Bridges, was the villain of Iron Man. Unfortunately, I guessed he was the villain right away even though he was supposed to be Tony Stark’s mentor and friend. Overall, I was totally into this movie. It was funny and action-packed and endearing at the same time. I give it an A.
